On June 7th, 2025, Jess and I got hitched.
It was a lovely day with waffles, omelettes, mimosas, and a coffee truck. More importantly, though, it was attended by beautiful people who have invested in us and inspired us to be the best version of ourselves.
I have included a picture from the wedding in this post. This was after the ceremony, after guests had something to eat, and after our maid of honor and best man gave their speeches. It was at this point that we expressed our gratitude for all that were able to come.
And you know what? Something fascinating was going on.
It was as if the air itself changed. It was filled with joy, hope, goodwill, virtue, faith, friendship, love, and happiness. It was palpable and genuine.
One of the quotes we used in the ceremony was from the opening lines of Thomas Merton’s classic No Man is an Island.
“A happiness that is sought for ourselves alone can never be found: for a happiness that is diminished by being shared is not big enough to make us happy. There is a false and momentary happiness in self-satisfaction, but it always leads to sorrow because it narrows and deadens our spirit. True happiness is found in unselfish love, a love which increases in proportion as it is shared. There is no end to the sharing of love, and, therefore, the potential happiness of such love is without limit.” (Thomas Merton in No Man is an Island)
When happiness is shared, not just between two people, but also among a community, it is a beautiful thing. Then, if it is grounded in love, it makes sense to me that it is exponentially increased by the amount of love present.
With all those wonderful people present, and all the love present, it is no wonder to me why it was the happiest day of my life.
